I have carried this book in my purse since I bought it in September and read it constantly! There are so many great ideas for menus, party themes, and drinks. What I like best is it is a great book for a young single/married person or older single/married person whether they have never entertained in their life or constantly entertaining. It gives you those simple checklists of items you should always have on hand for entertaining, such as must have utensils and menu items to whip up snacks and drinks on the fly. There are so many details that I had previously overlooked, but definetely noticed as a guest and forgot when planning my own party. I feel much more prepared, which will put me at ease to tend to my guests, as the best hostess should. Great gift item for any Girl! Excellent shower gift, graduation gift, or retirement gift!!!! I would recommend this book more for people who are just starting out in the entertaining world (like the sorority sister mentioned in one of the reviews) than for the more seasoned party-givers. I bought it based on all the reviews form these party-seasoned folks and had expected something, well, more advanced. I will copy out some of the good recipes, but I don’t need all the prose. I will either regift to a younger person or donate to the library booksale. Have to say that this is my first “bad” purchase (out of a gazillion) based on reviews, though, so thanks to all you writers out there who do give your opinions! Rating: 3 / 5
I love throwing parties and was looking to get some inspiration for upcoming get-togethers. I highly recommend this book. It has great ideas, tips, inspiration, etc. It inspires you to be creative and fun-loving with your parties. If you love having fun at the parties you throw you will love this book. Rating: 5 / 5
This is the only book I’ve read that gives advice on how to prepare for your parties. Lighting, Music, Conversation, party favors, prepping the bathroom & where to get items for your party. (some of the links seem to be broken.) How to write invitations. Preparing a pantry of emergency items. A few Food items that can be frozen & revived quickly. She then goes on to give you situations like Cocktail parties, Elegant Dinner parties, buffets & gives menu suggestions based on how much time you have to prepare: Emergency, 2 hours, over the top & cheap.
I’ve looked as several other famous peoples party books & they don’t cover quite a few of the details Erika covers. It’s not a lengthy book. But just pointing out things to take care of like: put a candle in the bathroom & bathroom spray that’s not out of a can reminds me, “Oh yeh, I gotta put that on my list!” Instead of realizing I forgot something after the party’s started.
It is written like a 20 something. But that’s part of the fun of it. Read it with humor. She tells some entertaining stories on herself. Rating: 5 / 5
This book is a must have for *everyone*! If you’ve never entertained, here’s a book to help you throw a swank party with minimal effort. If you entertain frequently, you can still learn very cool and smart tips for putting on a fabulous soiree. You can’t go wrong! Rating: 5 / 5
