If youâve assumed the responsibilities of the Best Man for the wedding of a friend or family member, one of the first and most important duties that will fall on your shoulders is the organization of a Bachelor Party. Many men donât really know how to plan a Bachelor Party and arenât versed in party planning at all. However, with the help of the groomsmen and other supportive friends, planning the party can be stress-free and provide an experience that the groom will be talking about for years to come
.
The first step in planning is determining what kind of Bachelor Party best fits the groom. Remember, this event is for HIM, not you and the groomsmen, so he should be comfortable with the type of event chosen.
If you decide to stick with the âtraditionalâ Bachelor Party, you may want to have a conversation with the bride to determine whether or not this is something she can live with. And remember, while you might find it fun to indulge in raucous entertainment that includes strippers and other not-so-shy women, know where to draw the line. The last thing you want to do is coerce the groom into doing something that heâll later find embarrassing, so be sure to keep the party in check. With a party that involves alcohol, youâll also want to be sure that everyone has safe transportation from the party to home. And if youâre planning on the fact that everyone will consume large amounts of alcohol, donât schedule the party close to the wedding. Consider holding it a week or more before so that everyone feels fine for the big day.
Many Best Men now opt for less traditional parties, choosing instead some sort of get-together that might extend over a few days or a weekend. A trip to a nearby lake for fishing, boating, and other watersports might be appropriate for those who enjoy the outdoors. Or perhaps a camping trip to a National Park or a road trip to a favorite destination might be a good choice.
If youâre limiting the get-together to just a day, paint ball is a fun activity for a group of guys as is a trip to a ball game or an amusement park. Want to do something a bit more adventurous? Consider sky diving, but check with the groom and other attendants first to make sure their up for the challenge.
If youâre the Best Man, you donât have to bear the entire financial burden for the Bachelor Party. Carefully add up all the expenses and split them between all the groomsmen. However, tell them this is your plan upfront so there are no surprises. Be mindful of everyoneâs budget. If the groomsmen are all college students, for example, keep the expenses to a minimum.
Above all, have all the details in place before the day of the party so that nothing is left to chance. This way, you can sit back and relax and enjoy the festivities, knowing that youâve planned a Bachelor Party that will be unforgettable.
